London Olympic Game food and drink prices a 'shocker'

As tourists prepare to flock to London for the 2012 Olympic Games they will need to have plenty of pounds on their person to cope with the exorbitant price of food and drinks at the games. Twitter users have denounced the prices as a "shocker."
London Olympic organizers have revealed a list of prices that game goers will need to pay if they fancy a spot of light refreshment in the July heat.

According to the Guardian beer will be priced at ?7.23 a pint ( $11.22, ?9.03), more than double the national average, whilst the only water on sale will be priced at ?1.80 ($2.79, ?2.24). A traditional serving of fish and chips will cost at least ?8.

The Telegraph reported Twitter users denounced the pricing policy as a "shocker." However, the Olympic organizers defended their prices, saying "We believe that our prices are more than comparable to those found at other major sporting events, which because of their temporary nature are often more expensive than the high street."

Organizers also said they had gone to great lengths to find ?high quality, tasty food that celebrates the best of Britain" which must explain why McDonald's, the American fast food chain that so typifies the best of Britain, has four restaurants at Olympic venues.

Game goers who plan to avoid the high prices of Olympic refreshments may well consider packing a picnic for the day to save on the expensive outlay. Unfortunately, attempts to bring ones own food to the venues will not be allowed as the Sun reports organizers have put a ban on picnics. On top of that, liquids in containers exceeding 100ml will be confiscated.
